Classic Comfort recently partnered with Dutch interior design firm Mars Interieurarchitecten to breathe new life into the iconic Heineken Gebouw in Rotterdam. This project showcases how seamlessly integrating modern comfort with historical preservation can create truly exceptional spaces.
The Heineken Gebouw isn’t just a landmark; it’s a testament to Heineken’s deep roots in Rotterdam. More than just a former brewery, this building represents the birthplace of Heineken’s signature A-yeast, the essential ingredient still used in their beers globally. Beyond beer, the building has played a vital role in Rotterdam’s history, supporting the resistance during WWII and even providing clean drinking water during a crisis.
Now, the Heineken Gebouw invites visitors to experience its unique blend of history and hospitality. From interactive exhibits showcasing Heineken’s heritage to stylish meeting spaces and a cozy cafe, it’s an interesting destination where people admire Rotterdam’s past and present.
For this renovation, Classic Comfort was tasked with providing a heating solution that would complement the building’s historical architecture while delivering optimal performance. We selected American Peerless radiators, renowned for their timeless design and robust heating capabilities, to add a touch of warmth and classic elegance to the space.
The project presented a unique challenge: the chosen radiators were destined for an upper floor, but two of them were too large to be transported in one piece through the building’s existing infrastructure. This obstacle could have derailed the project’s timeline or compromised the radiators’ integrity.
However, our team at Classic Comfort, recognized for their expertise in cast iron radiator restoration and installation, devised an ingenious solution. We carefully disassembled the radiators, transported the components to the designated floor, and then skillfully reassembled them on-site, guaranteeing a flawless installation.
The collaboration between Classic Comfort and Mars Interieur showcases a successful blending of skills. Mars Interieur’s vision for the space, combined with Classic Comfort’s technical mastery and dedication to preserving the building’s historical character, resulted in a smooth integration of modern comfort and timeless design.
The Heineken Gebouw now stands as a monument to the power of collaboration and the ability to revitalize historical spaces while respecting their legacy. Visitors can experience the building’s unique atmosphere and admire the beautifully integrated cast iron radiators firsthand. The Heineken Gebouw is open daily between 8:30 AM and 5:30 PM.
